Ora Lou Slaton Wiesenmaier joined her Heavenly Hosts on November 27, 2020. She was a native of Boaz, AL, born February 14, 1938, to parents Burma Lois Slaton and Luther Slaton. She married Bernhard L. Wiesenmaier on November 22, 1958 determined to be a homemaker and never be labeled a housewife.
Ora Lou loved flowers, gardens and had a special talent with colors. She leaves a legacy of preserving flowers from many weddings and funerals by doing each stem as an art before reassembly into original form as a final remembrance.
Ora Lou's Christian faith was personal. She shunned denomination dogma and doctrinal interpretation. At home, under a praying hands plaque, she framed the following words:
Lord God of Hosts, gracious and merciful Father, we thank Thee that Thou has forgiven the iniquity of Thy people. And to the end that all our doings may please Thee, we come before Thee in obedience to Thy command and trusting in Thy promise, beseeching Thee mercifully to hear our supplications and requests. Vouchsafe unto us the continued possession of Thy pure Word and the blessed Sacraments. Govern us by Thy Holy Spirit, that we may be both hearers and doers of the Word. Cause the glorious tidings of Thy grace to be proclaimed among all nations, and powerfully incline the hearts of men everywhere, that they may hear and obey the joyful sound. Grant unto the rulers and magistrates of this nation a spirit of wisdom and godly fear. Restrain the violence of the wicked, that we may pass our days in the peaceful enjoyment of Thy favor. Give us our daily bread, defend our homes from destruction, protect our fields from harm, preserve our country from public calamities, and deliver us from all evil. We beseech Thee for everything we need and everything Thou wouldst have us pray for. Grant us this for the sake of Thy dear Son Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Ora Lou enjoyed many years teaching her own "exercise 4 U" at Southeast YMCA and the Senior Center. Her exercise forms were created from research known to keep seniors active as she learned from her personal needs.
Her father, mother, son Thomas David, sister Annie Jo Welford, brother in law Gordon Welford, and brother Charles Slaton preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband Bernhard who is thankful for 62 years of love, daughter Julie Wiesenmaier Shikoh, granddaughters Morgan and Amanda Shikoh, sister in law Debra Slaton, niece Karen McDonald (Roark), niece Christy Farmer (Blake), McDonald children Calla, Beverly and Ford, and Farmer son Axton Blake expected in February.
Due to concerns of the pandemic, there will be a private service. The family requests that you leave Celebration of Life memories and condolences at www.valhallafunerals.com as it will bring them comfort to read your kind words. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Southeast YMCA and the Madison County Senior Center.
