She was born on November 21, 1938, in Walnut Grove, Mississippi, to Everette and Exie Woods. She later moved to Grand Bay, Alabama, where she attended Mobile County High School. After high school, she married the love of her life, Wallace Jordan.
Rachel and Wallace began their married life in Mobile, Alabama, where Wallace worked for the Army. A few years later, they moved to Huntsville when he began working for NASA. Rachel devoted herself to raising their three sons as a loving stay-at-home mother. During those years, the family was active at Weatherly Heights Baptist Church, where she volunteered faithfully. She also worked for a time as a bookkeeper at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.
In 1977, the family moved to Germany while Wallace worked on Spacelab with the European Space Agency. Rachel treasured that time abroad and especially enjoyed traveling throughout Europe with family and friends. After returning to Huntsville, she worked for many years as a realtor with Joe Steele Realty until her retirement.
In retirement, Rachel enjoyed traveling across the United States, as well as spending time at Orange Beach and in the Great Smoky Mountains. She loved reading, cooking, and hosting family gatherings. She also enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with family and friends. More than anything, Rachel cherished her family. She was a devoted mother to her children and a beloved Mamaw to her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she loved spending time with them both at home and on trips to the beach. She also treasured visits with her sister, brothers, and extended family. She will be deeply missed by her family and by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Jordan, and her parents, Everette and Exie Woods.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Jackson; her brothers, Thomas Woods and Philip Woods (Debbie); her sons, Wallace Jordan Jr. (Valarie), Kelly Jordan (Tamela), and Craig Jordan (Tracy); her grandchildren, Brad Jordan (Ashley), Amanda Martin (Brandon), Ryan Jordan (Amanda), Matt Jordan (Danielle), Bryan Tucker, Chelsey Jordan (Corey), Ashley Vanhoose (Josh), Courtney Wade (Max), Taylor Kruunenberg (Ritchie), Dillon Jordan (Danielle), Kyle Jordan, and Caden Jordan; and twenty great-grandchildren.
