

WILLIAM EARL “BILLY” BAIRD December 25, 1929 – June 26, 2015 William E. Baird, 85, passed away peacefully Friday, June 26, 2015 at Big Spring Manor. Mr. Baird was born in Walker County, but was a long time resident of Huntsville. Mr. Baird was preceded in death by his parents, George William Baird and Farrie Louise Baird of Jasper, Alabama; and sister, Dorothy Nell Hamilton of Guntersville, Alabama. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Mrs. Veroma Cook Baird; two daughters, Jeanne Baird Greer and her husband Jody of Huntsville; Julie Baird Lott and her husband George of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Bailey Greer, Jake Greer, Olivia Lott and Sarah Lott; two nephews, Jody Chorba and Rusty Chorba of Guntersville, Alabama; and numerous friends. Billy was born on Christmas Day 1929 at home in Union Chapel, Alabama and grew up in Jasper, Alabama. He graduated from Walker County High School in 1948. He attended and played football at the University of Alabama for two years. Following a period of time in the Army, he completed pharmacy school at Howard College (now Samford University) in 1956. He married Veroma in 1969. He was a pharmacist in Huntsville (particularly at Fox Army Hospital) for over 30 years. His daughters remember him as a jovial, hard working man who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Billy loved running, boating, water skiing, flying small airplanes, and cheering for Alabama Football. He was generous and witty, and he loved socializing with his many friends. You may visit with the family at Valhalla Funeral Home on Monday, June 29, 2015 from 1:00PM until 3:00PM. There will be a funeral service conducted by Rev. Joe Estes in Valhalla’s chapel commencing at 3:00PM. A reception will immediately follow at The Villas at Jones Valley Clubhouse, at 1 Valley Way Circle.
