

William “Bill” Leonard passed into God’s eternal care on Easter Sunday, April 17 at the age of 96 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marcia Riordan Leonard, and his six children: Maura (John) Davies of Leeds, AL; Liam Leonard of Huntsville; Julie Leonard of Quincy, MA; Roisin (George) Maxcey of Clearwater, FL; Pauline (Ed) Karpowicz of Frederick, MD; and Eamonn Leonard of Brunswick, GA, and his grandchildren Anna, Margaret, Jack, and Flora, as well as his brother-in-law Terry Riordan and many nieces and nephews in the Leonard and Riordan families. He was predeceased by his parents Elizabeth Donahue Leonard and Joseph Leonard, his brother Leo Leonard, and his brother Paul Leonard.
He was born in 1925 in Ensley, Alabama, served in the Army Air Corps during WWII, was a 1950 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked 30 years for the Department of the Army in the U.S. Army Missile Command. After retiring he became an active partner with his wife, Marcia, as a designer and consultant in Leonard Art, and became a valued resource to the local art community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Father Trecy Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 25, 2022 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Valhalla Funeral Home in the Serenity Room. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church. Interment will follow Mass at Valhalla Memory Gardens with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bill Leonard's name to one of the following: Catholic Charities, the American Legion, or the Maryknoll Fathers.
