He was born on January 8, 1938, in Limestone County, Alabama, to John William Newton and Lucille Pack Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John William Newton and Lucille Pack Newton; his brothers, Johnny and Daniel Newton; his beloved son, William Lewis Newton, Jr.; and his stepdaughter, Christie Lynn Brand.
William is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Newton; his stepdaughter, Connie Martin; seven granddaughters; one grandson; four great-grandchildren; and many cherished friends.
William dedicated 28 years of faithful service to the City of Huntsville before retiring. He was a longtime and devoted member of West Huntsville Baptist Church, where his faith and fellowship were an important part of his life.
William will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and the kindness he shared with all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the West Huntsville Baptist Church Building Fund.
