63, of Indianapolis, departed this life Sunday, January 15, 2023, surrounded by loved ones at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. Alan was born July 31, 1959, in Morris, Illinois to the late William M. and Margaret A. (Vasek) Wakeman. On April 24, 1982, Alan married the love of his life, Ann Hoffmann in Frankfort, Illinois. Alan was an accomplished mechanic and had worked for Van der Ray Bus for over 15 years before going to work in sales/receiving for Speedway Auto Parts in 1998.
Alan was a kind and gentle soul who always put the needs of his family first. He was happiest being with his girls and having fun times. Alan also enjoyed working in his yard and garden, fishing, playing cards, rocking out to Pink Floyd, and not watching his beloved Chicago Cubs because of his suspicious belief that he brought them bad luck.
Alan is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Ann Wakeman; his loving daughters, Juli Wakeman and Kimberly Wakeman; dear sister, Alice Roderick; sisters-in-law Mary Gniech, Liz (Jim) Campbell, Patti Parli; brothers-in-law Bill (Gail) Hoffmann, Tom (Diana) Hoffmann; a host of wonderful nieces, and nephews; many friends; and last but not least his devoted dog Sparky.
We will be celebrating Alan on Saturday March 25, 2023, from 1:00PM – 6:00PM at the College Park Estates Clubhouse, 9001 Fordham St., Indianapolis, IN 46268. This will be a true party for Alan. We will have light snacks, sweets (because we all know how much Alan didn’t like chocolate LOL), and beverages. There may even be a few tables set up for some Euchre games.
Alan never wanted us to be sad that he has left us; but to celebrate all the fun and good times we had as family and friends. Please come ready to share a favorite “Alan" story/memory for his memory book. If you are unable to make it, please email us your story/memory and we will add it to the book.
If you've got them, come in your marrying and burying shoes (extra points if they are Velcro) and suspenders. We look forward to celebrating Alan with everyone in a couple of weeks.
P.S. There is a playground at the clubhouse for those that have kids.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Alan’s name are suggested to American Diabetes Association or to the American Cancer Society.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.leppertmortuary.com for the Wakeman family.
