Dr. Anandavalli "Anna" Krishnamoorthy, age 91, of Carmel Indiana departed this life peacefully at her daughter’s home on Monday, January 15, 2024. Anna was born on February 10, 1932 in Tinnevelly, India to the late Mahalingam Omayorubagom and Sankaravadivu Ammal.
Dr. Krishnamoorthy earned her medical degree from Dr. M.G.R. Medical University/Madras Medical College in 1963, and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in India. After marrying her husband Subramanian “Krish” Krishnamoorthy, Anna moved to Canada in the late 60s. She worked diligently to earn her accreditations and certifications to practice medicine in Canada and the U.S. and would later work for the federal government of Canada as a family physician. Her travels took her from Toronto, where her daughter Jayanthi was born, to the Northwest Territories. While practicing in the Great Northwest, Dr. Krishnamoorthy would fly as a solo physician by bush plane to provide medical care to remote settlements. Her patients were gifted with a doctor with a positive attitude, cheery disposition, savvy medical intuition and unparallelled clinical acumen, be it day or night and regardless of the fierce weather conditions. The lives that she impacted as a physician, family member and friend are unmeasurable and invaluable.
To know Anna was to love her. She was a woman of great generosity, kindness, determination, strength, character, integrity, fortitude and love. My mom always put the needs of others before her own, and was always happiest with her loving family and friends. My parents spent 20 years in Florida, where Dr. Krishnamoorthy continued to work tirelessly as a physician well into her 80s, practicing in emergency room and urgent care settings. Anna and Krish eventually made their way to Carmel, Indiana to be closer to their only daughter, only grandson and only grand-dog.
Anandavalli was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Subramanian Krishnamoorthy, her four loving brothers O. Venketasubramanian, O. Ramalingam, O. Mangalavinayakam, O. Sivagnanum, her beloved sisters in law V. Sakuntala, R. Kuppamal, and C. Salochana, her cherished brother in law S. Chockalingam, and her much loved nephew V. Venkateswaran.
Dr. Krishnamoorthy is survived by her devoted daughter, Dr. Jayanthi Krishnamoorthy Peters; her beloved grandson, Mr. Erich Krishna Emil Peters; her devoted grand-dog, Oreo Krishamoorthy Peters and a host of cherished family members, grateful patients and colleagues, and esteemed friends across the globe.
A visitation for Anandavalli will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Leppert Mortuaries – Nora, 740 East 86th St, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240, followed by a Hindu Rites with cremation at 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions will be donated to a charitable organization, through which Anna will once again touch the lives of many; details to follow.
