

Barbara Roussey Hubbs, 83, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 4, 2020, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born on February 18, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Park and Helen (Mayer) Roussey.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Bill; her three children Laura (Jerry) Crane, Greg (Carolyn) Bieberich, and Jennifer (Michael) Baum; grandchildren Dan, Mike, Vicky, Michael, Katie and Abby, as well as a lifelong list of friends and community built over decades in Indianapolis. She was a long-time active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Indianapolis.
A gifted and devoted educator, Barbara loved working with kids and enjoyed a 40-year career where she held numerous positions from Spanish teacher to guidance counselor in various public and private school settings.
Barbara enjoyed sitting in her garden, reading books with her book club, and playing bridge and Trivial Pursuit games with her close group of friends. She loved people and relished a full social calendar with her family, friends and close-knit community. She especially delighted in porch/court parties with neighbors and cherished being a part of such a lovely and supportive group. She was also known on occasion to secretly sneak downstairs with her grandchildren to bond over a late-night cookie dough treat.
A beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Barbara treasured playing host for family celebrations and holidays, as well as going on various travel adventures. Regular trips to Florida, Clear Lake, Indiana, and California provided many memories to be cherished. Upon retirement, she and her husband, Bill ventured on a grand, 3-month-long around the world cruise fostering her love of travel and the start of a new chapter in her life. Barbara had a heart for helping others, and after retirement volunteered at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent holding and rocking babies, and at the St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.
Barbara loved and was loved deeply and will be greatly missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 14th at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with calling there to begin at 10:30 am. Private inurnment will be at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
