Betty Jane Lingeman

Betty Jane Dyer Lingeman, 98, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on June 26th, 2022. Betty was born August 15th, 1923 in Endicott, New York to Earl and Gladys Dyer. She graduated from Endicott Union High School and Rochester General School of Nursing. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Ernie, Robert, and William Dyer. Her former husband, Dr. Raleigh E. Lingeman also preceded her in death. She is survived by her seven children: Diane Lingeman, Cynthia (Gary) Manowitz, Dr. James (Rita) Lingeman, Helen (Dr. Steven) Ahlfeld, Paul Lingeman, Jane Lingeman, and Rebecca Lingeman. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Peter (Carrie) Manowitz, Heather (fiancé Tyler Crawford) Manowitz, Allison (Robert) Shipp, John (Samantha) Lingeman, Jennifer Lingeman, Laura Lingeman, Christine Lingeman, Adam (Katherine) Ahlfeld, Christopher (Emily) Ahlfeld, Sara (Jacob) West, Michael Lingeman, Thomas Lingeman, Kathleen Brundage, Joseph (Jill) Brundage, as well as 12 great grandchildren.

Betty’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was the matriarch of the family and taught love, acceptance, and never-ending kindness. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, especially at the family cottage on Lake Michigan.

She was an active member at North United Methodist Church where she prepared thousands of meals for the Shepherd’s Center over 30+ years. She also loved reading, baking (her pies were the BEST!), knitting, sewing, gardening, going for walks, and watching sunsets at the cottage. Betty will be dearly missed by her family and those who were lucky enough to know her.
