

Diana passed into the arms of her heavenly father on November 10th at the age of 90. She was born on October 27th 1935 to her parents Winsor Thomas Waits & Cordelia Adalena Waits. Diana graduated from Short Ridge High School (Class of 1953) and Hanover College (Class of 1957) Cum Laude, where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. Graduate Studies were at the Exeter University, Exeter England and Butler University. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dr. W. Bailey Davis and brothers Howard & Windsor Waits. Diana is survived by her three sons Warren Davis, Glenn Davis (Wife, Alison) of Carmel, IN and Dr. Steven Davis (Wife, Sharon) of Raleigh, NC. She had seven grandchildren Brittany, Justin, Madeline, (Twines) Charlie and Bridget, Darby, and Ben.
Diana was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She was an elementary school teacher before she became a stay-at-home mom. When her sons were in school, she became a community volunteer. She was past president of the Children’s Museum Guild and a 50-year member. Diana was involved with WFYI Public Media for over fifty years, serving on the Board as Chairman, and in 1993 was named Life Director and Extinguished Director Emeritus. Each year the “Diana W. Davis Volunteer Award” is given to an outstanding volunteer at WFYI. Other Boards included the Indiana Public Broadcasting Society (PBS). She also volunteered and Chaired events at the President Harrison Home and was a member of the Fortnightly Literary Club. She always enjoyed serving at her son’s schools and sporting events in Carmel.
Later in life Diana became a member of the Heartland Film Festival staff as the Director of Volunteers, Coordinator of Events & Services of the festival. She enjoyed rich friendships in all these organizations as well as with teachers from all her years of teaching elementary school at IPS in Indianapolis.
Diana was a member of College Park Church where she sang in the choir, volunteered at the welcome center, and participated and led women’s precept bible study for over 35 years.
Lake Maxinkuckee in Culver, IN was a special place for the family for over 35 years. Diana loved to entertain in their home.
She also loved to travel and felt blessed to enjoy visiting over 30 countries and much of the United States. She crossed the Atlantic Ocean on the Maiden Voyage on the Queen Mary II.
Her strong Faith in Jesus Christ and her prayer life for family and friends guided her in all she did and through many trials, always giving all the glory to GOD.
Services remembering and celebrating the life of Diana W. Davis will be held on December 6th Saturday at Leppert Funeral Home 740 E. 86th St. Indianapolis, IN 46240 Visitation from 12:30 followed by a Service at 1:30 pm. Join Interment at Crown Hill Cemetery on the Hill next to the James Whitcomb Riley tomb following the service.
