Donald R. Davis, 84, of Indianapolis, passed away August 6, 2022. He was born on December 23, 1937 in New Castle, Indiana to the late Vern and Mary Ellen (Hiestand) Davis.
Don attended Indiana Central College (UIndy), Butler, and Purdue. He received his Bachelor’s degree and continued his education and graduated with a Master’s degree. He was a teacher for the MSD Washington Township School System where he taught English, Social Studies, and Speech. He also coached baseball.
Don was an avid gardener and loved working in his yard. He also became a self taught handyman, learning on his own how to fix things instead of hiring someone.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in New Castle, Indiana and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Indianapolis. He loved the Indianapolis Colts and took great pride in being a grandfather to his two grandsons.
Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Diane (Frye) Davis; two daughters, Deanna “Dee” Landers (Tom), and Denise Davis (Kirk Nelson); and two grandsons, Aidan Landers and Peyton Landers.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. Visitation will be held at the funeral home also on Wednesday beginning at 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Don’s memory may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 6050 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46208 or National Hospice Foundation,1731 King Street, Alexandria, VA, 22314.
