Doug attended Nora Elementary School, Shortridge High School, and graduated from Indiana University in 1961, where he swam under the legendary coach “Doc” Councilman.
His memberships in Indianapolis included Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, the Dramatic Club of Indianapolis, and the City Club.
He will be remembered for his love of pies, the Lilly Pool, Palm Springs, Leland, Michigan, and his one-liners. He could recommend the best restaurant in any city and often enjoyed a cigar and a Manhattan while playing penny slots.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Ruth Carey Adams Linsmith; sister Ann Sullivan (Dennis); and children Stewart (Andrea) of Portland, Maine, and grandchildren Miles, Ellis, Mazie; daughter Eleanor Troy (Stephen) and grandchildren Patrick (Meredith), Michael, Matthew, and Andrew; and son Scott Linsmith (Jennifer Touw).
The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care and kindness Doug received from Northside Home Care, Marquette Manor, and Paradyme Hospice.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, February 10, at the Crown Hill Gothic Chapel. We’ll be receiving family and friends at Leppert Mortuary, Nora, from 4:00-7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to “The Woods We Love” at The Orchard School, The Holliday Park Foundation, or The Fishtown Preservation Society, Leland, MI.
