Ed was born January 29th, 1947, to Charlie and Rita Walsh and passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday April 28th, 2025. He was raised in Indianapolis and grew up in Broad Ripple. Throughout much of his life, Ed created lifelong friendships through his membership of multiple clubs and parishes. He attended Christ the King Catholic School and was a proud graduate of the first graduating class of Bishop Chatard High School. Ed then went on to graduate from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Business. After completing his degree, Ed returned to Indianapolis where he married Barbara, his loving wife of 53 years, on August 14th, 1971. Initially securing a job selling life insurance, he then transitioned to a long and successful career in the art education and supply industry, first as a marketing manager and later as an Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
As an avid IU basketball fan, he never missed a chance to attend a game in Bloomington, watch on TV, or listen to Don Fischer on the radio. Ed found an unparalleled love for the game of golf at a young age, but mostly he enjoyed sharing the course with his friends and family. He attended all four of golf’s Major Championships in person over the course of his life. Ed served as a youth sports coach for both of his sons’ soccer and baseball teams, was a member of the Rotary Club of Indianapolis, as well as a parishioner and volunteer at St. Luke Catholic Church & School for over 40 years. He was known to enjoy Budweiser, quality scotch and was always on the lookout for a game of gin rummy with extended family, especially his brother-in-law Quentin and sister-in-law Susan.
Ed was a gentle soul, a man of faith, and cared deeply about his entire family and friends. Ed displayed a robust work ethic, working up to three jobs at a time to put himself through school but he always found time for fun and laughter. The most special laughter always came from his family, especially his five grandchildren, who brought him great joy and endless smiles. Ed consistently looked to see the good in the world and he sought to positively impact others.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Rita and Charlie Walsh, brother Charles Walsh and sister Jane (Walsh) Tina. He is survived by his wife Barbara, son Ed Jr. (Leslie) Walsh and son John (Beth) Walsh, and his five grandchildren-Leo, Oliver, Samson, Norah and Molly Walsh, sisters Barbie (Jerry) Tina and Patty (Tom) Gill and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
