Obituario de Frank H. Miller Jr., M.D.
On the afternoon of August, 21, 2023, Frank H. Miller Jr., M.D. died at the age of 78. Family and friends mourn the loss of a husband, father, brother, physician and friend to many. A lover of golf, photography, Hawaii, and entertaining obituaries, Frank, an optimistic IU football fan, was ever-present and hopeful that the magic of the 1967 Rose bowl team could be repeated. And it didn’t. Frank, considered by many to be witty, clever, kind and handsome could also be frequently misunderstood by those closest to him. However, this was also part of his charm and attraction that made those that knew him adore him so much. To the very end, Frank was entertaining. Frank graduated North Central High School in 1963. From there he attended Indiana University where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. The friendships and memories from this time remain to this day. He obtained his medical degree from IU Medical School in 1971. He entered the U.S. Air Force at the rank of Captain as a flight surgeon on F-4 Phantoms and B-52 bombers. He was stationed in Thailand, and Becky, his adventurous wife, joined him off-base. Following his commitment in Southeast Asia, he returned to the US and completed his residency in ophthalmology at IU medical center and joined his father, Frank H. Miller, in private practice. He retired from ophthalmology in 2006. He was a 43-year member of Meridian Hills Country Club, we are not at liberty to discuss his handicap at this time. He cherished the friendships he made there. An avid world traveler, he settled on Hawaii as his destination of choice, visiting Maui and Kauai a record 35 times. Frank met Becky Bell at North Central High School 60 years ago, and they are and always will be the perfect love story. Together since 16 years old, the high school football star, and Becky the Sigma Nu sweetheart eventually married in 1967 in Indianapolis. The two recently celebrated 56 years of marriage, a lifetime of love. In 1974, while stationed at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah, Frank and Becky had a son, Corby. In 1984 they welcomed their second child, Lacy. In retirement, his favorite pastime was being entertained by his grandchildren Colton and Rory Hicks, and harassed by his sister Susan. He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Frank H. Miller, and his mother Georgia (Weaver) Miller. He is survived by his wife, Becky (Bell) Miller, son Corby Miller (Brandi Lozano), daughter Lacy Hicks (Rance), siblings Dr. Thomas Miller, Susan Miller Hall, grandchildren Colton and Rory Hicks. A Celebration of Frank’s Life will be held at Hillcrest Country Club at 6098 Fall Creek Rd. Indianapolis IN 46220 from 5-8pm Sunday, August 27th 2023.
