

George A. Lemcke passed away on January 14th, 2023, at the age of 88. The son of George A. and Mary Catherine Lemcke and brother to Cornelia Frankenburg, all of whom proceeded him in death. George is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Susanne (Lapenta) and four adoring children; Cornelia (Cici) Johnson (Joe Bey) of Indianapolis, George A. Lemcke III (Patrick Sandy) of Indianapolis, Mary Kuntz (Greg) of Leland Michigan, and J. A. Lemcke (Jeannine Adams) of Indianapolis. Grandchildren; Kevin Johnson of Sheridan, Indiana, and Christopher Johnson (Taylor) of Columbus, Ohio. Step grandchildren; Jessica Sandy (Sean Bober) of Chicago, Jon Sandy of West Lafayette and step great grandson, Ernest Bober.
George was an army veteran serving during the Korean war. He attended the University of Bridgeport and settled back in Indianapolis to start his career, eventually owning a successful business which holds several patents. He was an avid golfer and boatsman. As a member of Woodstock Club, he served 3 terms as a board member and was chairman of the greens committee for many years. George could always be found on the golf course on a nice day, shooting his age on many occasions and achieving 5 holes in one. As a member of the Indianapolis Dramatic Club, he served as president for one term. His most cherished time was spent with family during summers in Leland, Michigan and was a member of the Leland Country Club and the Leland Yacht Club. Known for his zest for life and great humor, he will be missed by many.
Interment will be held privately by family at Crownhill Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at Woodstock Club at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 21.
