He graduated from Muskegon High School. A carpenter by trade, Jack directed the Housing for Muskegon Area Development Council and other urban development projects. Jack served his country in the US Navy. He was an avid builder including building his own house. He and his wife built and painted bird houses as a hobby. He loved fishing, hunting, and bowling. Jack accepted Christ as his Savior as a younger man and enjoyed serving in church. He especially enjoyed the mission trips to Arizona to help Native Americans.
He will be remembered for his sacrificial devotion to his wife especially during her later years.
He loved his family. Jack is survived by son David VanderWier (Jan); daughter Lori Dye (Steve); and son Jon VanderWier (Linda); 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Muriel VanderWier; sister Jan Larr; and brother Jerry VanderWier.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 20 at Colonial Hills Baptist Church. Visitation at noon and service at 1 pm.
