Jerremy (Jerry) Ramp died at home with his family on October 4, 2022, due to respiratory failure. He is survived by his wife Diane, brother Fredrick, daughter Stefanie (Wael), son Jerremy (Christy), and grandchildren (Leo, Augusta, and William). Born in Rensselaer, Indiana, Jerry earned his bachelor’s and medical degrees in just seven years. In 1966, he interned at George Washington University and then began his surgical residency at NYU/Bellevue. During that time, he met a nurse from the Bronx who would become his wife of 50 years. In 1971, he began a fellowship at the University of Maryland’s shock trauma unit. A few years later, he became the Director of Emergency Services at Boston City Hospital, with a private surgical practice at Boston University Hospital. While there, he was the on-call surgeon for President Gerald Ford, for which he received a commendation from the White House. In 1977, he returned to his roots in Indiana, practicing general surgery at Winona as well as being an on-call trauma surgeon for Methodist. His practice moved exclusively to St. Vincent in the ’80s, where he specialized in general and thoracic surgery for the next 35 years. He eventually transitioned into wound care and retired at the age of 79. He lived his life in service to his patients and his family, and was widely recognized as an exceptional diagnostician and surgeon. “One of a kind” has been the phrase most-used in these last sad days. He will be deeply missed by his wife, brother, children, grandchildren, and friends who loved him dearly. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the American Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated. A visitation will take place at Leppert Mortuary (Nora) on Sunday, October 9, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Indianapolis, on October 10 at 11 a.m.
