

Dr. M. John Borkowski of Indianapolis passed away on January 16, 2021. He was born on October 8, 1929 to Marcel and Sophie Borkowski, in New Bedford, Massachusetts. John graduated from New Bedford High School in 1947 and continued his academic career by receiving his B.A. from Valparaiso University in 1951. John then attended dental school and received his D.D.S. from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1955 and a Certificate in Fixed Prosthodontics in 1975. John was a U.S. Air Force Captain serving as a dentist from 1955-1957.
John started his private dental practice in 1957 and retired in 2007. During that time, he was also an Assistant Professor in Fixed Prosthodontics Department at IU and consultant to the I.U. School of Dentistry.
John was a member of numerous organizations including: American Dental Association, Indiana Dental Association, Indianapolis District Dental Society Board of Directors (Membership Committee, Social Committee Chairman, Chairman of Reorganization, Indiana Dental Association Delegate, Chairman Public Relations Committee, Grievance Committee), Fellow American College of Dentists, Fellow of International College of Dentists, Pierre Fauchard Academy, John F. Johnston Prosthodontic Society Executive Committee, American Prosthodontic Society, Federation of Prosthodontic Organization, and Indiana University Dental School Alumni.
In retirement, John enjoyed gardening, creating delicious meals for friends and family, and spending time in Cape Cod. He also enjoyed construction and landscaping projects.
John is survived by his children, Robert Borkowski (Joan), Richard Borkowski, Christine Hicks (Scott), Catherine Borkowski, David Borkowski, eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Borkowski, and sisters, Irene Bartholomew and Helen Hess.
