Patrick was born on September 1, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Thomas and Patricia (Gaynor) Spellacy. In 1965, the family relocated to Indianapolis, where Patrick and his siblings attended St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School. From a young age, Patrick was an active participant in CYO sports, with a particular passion for football, playing the position of guard—or, as he liked to call it, "next to the Hupper."
Patrick attended Cathedral High School, graduating in 1980, and went on to further his education at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. His vibrant and outgoing personality made him a natural fit for a career in sales, following in the footsteps of his father, whom he deeply admired. Like his father, Patrick was a salesman for American Pad and Paper where he won the President's Award as the years outstanding salesman. He later transitioned to Carolina Paper. His career took him to Detroit, San Francisco, Charlotte, and Milwaukee. However, Patrick spent most of his life in Indianapolis, where he was a devoted son to his mother Patricia, who passed away in 2021.
In his free time, Patrick loved traveling to visit family and friends. As a passionate sports fan, he frequently attended games to support his many nieces and nephews, who affectionately called him “Uncle Pappy.” With his signature big smile, Patrick had a unique ability to make everyone feel special—whether they were close friends or complete strangers. Over the years, he built countless friendships and was beloved by many.
Patrick will be forever missed by his eight brothers and sisters, Kerry Bender (Mark), Kevin (Alma Noreika), Kathleen Scaletty, Colleen Cline (Mark), Mary Clare, Shawn (Allison Parker), Daniel, and Meghan MacKelly (Matthew) and his best friend Laura Myer and her daughter, Maggie.
Patrick was immensely proud of his nieces and nephews, Joseph and Michael Bender; Samantha and Anna Spellacy; James (Meghan Wiggs), Erin, Lauren, Lindsay, Liam and Finley Scaletty; Emily, Matthew, Caroline, and Catherine Cline; Peyton and Parker Spellacy; and Colin and Nora MacKelly—all of whom will miss their Uncle Pappy dearly.
Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Patricia Spellacy, and two siblings, Thomas and Patricia. Patrick's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Visitation and chapel service will be held at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery at 9001 Haverstick Road on Friday, September 6, 2024, with visitation from 1pm-3pm and service from 3pm-4pm followed by a Celebration of his Life at the Knights of Columbus, 71st and Keystone Ave.
