

Sidney Hatfield Weedman, 86, who passed away February 20, 2022 is survived by his wife of 65 years Sharon Huntington Weedman, daughters, Leslie Kotyuk, Lisa Weedman, Lauren Weedman, grandchildren, Benjamin Weedman, Emma Kotyuk, Clay Weedman and Leo Weatherford. Sid was born in 1935 in Mt. Comfort, Indiana to Dora and Ralph Weedman and graduated in a class of eleven from Mt. Comfort High School. He received a Bachelor's degree from Butler University and a Master's degree from Purdue University where he was a member of Delta Chi fraternity. He worked in professional theater in Pennsylvania, and at various local television stations while attending Butler. Sid and Sharon met at Butler's College of Music where Sharon was enrolled in the School of Dance and Sid was majoring in theater. Sid was a faculty member of Butler's theater department prior to joining Clowes Memorial Hall and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra where he served as the general manager until he became the first Executive Director of the Commission for Downtown. During his five years with the Commission he oversaw a $4.7 million bricking and beautification of Monument Circle and Market Street, a $9 million renovation of the Circle Theater into a concert hall which became the home of the Indianapolis Symphony, and numerous festivals and events. He later became the Executive Director for the White River State Park Commission where he administered the acquisition of properties for the development of the Indianapolis Zoo, the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indian and Western Art, and National Institute of Fitness and Sport. He later joined National City Bank (formerly Merchants Bank) and retired fifteen years later as Senior Vice President of Corporate Community Affairs. Following retirement from the bank he worked for the Riley Children's Foundation. In addition to his varied work history Sid was very active in the amateur sports initiative as one of the founding board members and Vice Chairman of the Indiana Sports Corporation and was an integral part of planning and implementing many of the major sporting events hosted by Indianapolis.
Other community and civic activities include being named a Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Robert D. Orr, President of the Butler University Alumni Association, and President of 500 Festival Associates. He served on the Board of Directors of Eiteljorg Museum, National Institute of Fitness and Sports, Indiana Repertory Theater, Indiana State Museum, and the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association. He was a member of Woodstock Club and Gyro. Services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Riley Children's Foundation or a charity of donor’s choice.
