OBITUARIO
Susan Stone Lewis
21 septiembre , 1940 – 5 febrero , 2021
Susan Stone Lewis
80, of Indianapolis, passed away unexpectedly on February 5, 2021. She was born in Evansville, Indiana to William and Charlotte (Bromm) Stone. She attended Bosse High School in Evansville and graduated from Indiana University where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority.
Susan spent her early adult days as a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher but is known more for her servant heart and philanthropic endeavors, too countless to list. Susan was a member of the Junior League of Indianapolis, serving as President in 1978-79. She was passionate about her 40+ years of service to Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center through Mu Alpha Latreian and humbly accepted the “Help & Hope” volunteer of the year award in 2013. She was a selfless soul who would drop everything to help a friend in need.
Above all else, Susan cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. Nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with family. She never missed a sporting event, performance, or activity. She leaves behind her daughter, Ann Kellison (Eric) and their children Jack, Will and Lucy, her son, Billy Lewis (Casey) and their children Sam and Jake, and her beloved rescue dog, Oreo.
Susan was, without a doubt, a friend and volunteer extraordinaire. The depth of her heart and soul will remain an example. She was kind, compassionate, generous, clever, and a wicked problem solver for everyone. She was a firm believer that a sense of humor will overcome all obstacles. Susan was an avid IU Basketball fan, lover of animals, collector of creative, humorous sayings, an over-user of emojis and never turned down a social opportunity. Her wonderful spirit is a gift left behind and a legacy to be carried on by all who loved her. She will be greatly missed.
A private memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, February 15, 2021 and livestreamed for all at Leppert Nora Chapel’s website. To join our livestream, please visit Susan's tribute page at 12:45 pm at www.leppertmortuary.com

Susan Stone Lewis
¿TIENE UN RECUERDO O UNA CONDOLENCIA QUE AÑADIR?
AÑADIR UN RECUERDOMichael and Ellen Clippinger
21 febrero , 2021
Ellen and I were stunned this morning to read in the newspaper of Susan’s death. Although we were not close in recent years, we were both Susan’s friends during our years at Bosse High School.
At reunions and in a number of chance meetings in Indianapolis over the years, we immediately felt again her warmth and positivity. We would catch up with each others’ lives and growing families.
We are both immensely saddened by her death and offer her family our condolences in this time of profound loss.

Billy and Ann,
So very sorry to hear about your mom. It’s hard for me to say Susan as she was always Mrs. Lewis even though she was one of the parents that would say ‘call me Susan’ even when we were youngsters. But Susan always made me feel like I was in on something. Whatever it was. As a kid that is a strong memory! Her mischievous smile and twinkly eyes were the best!
Big hugs to you both and your families during this difficult time

I had the honor of working with Susan during my 8+ year tenure at Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center. Susan and a couple other Latreian ladies were a huge support for me not just in my professional life, but in my personal life as well when my son was born under trying circumstances. To say she will be missed is an understatement, but she has left an indelible mark and legacy at Mary Rigg and with her friends and family and will certainly be remembered fondly.
I miss you already, Susan.

Susan was one of the kindest and most optimistic and positive people (especially about IU Basketball!🙂) I have known. One of my favorite memories is Sugar, Susan, and I driving to Atlanta, GA (and meeting my sister who flew in from Texas) to watch IU play in the NCAA Championship game against Maryland....2002 (?). We had the big idea on Saturday after we won that Final Four game to leave and start driving to Atlanta on Sunday. We found rooms at the hotel in downtown Atlanta that was IU headquarters, and our seats were a few rows behind Clark Kellogg's and Bryant Gumbel's broadcast "table."
It was a spur-of-the-moment trip...we had to talk Susan into going...we loved every minute of it...except for the outcome of the game!!
Billy and Ann, your mother was a truly wonderful person. She touched so many people and friends, and she leaves a wonderful legacy behind in you two and your families.

My path crossed with Susan’s with our kids at North Central. Next Indianapolis Great Banquet, and finally she lived down the street from me. She was truly an amazing woman.. everyone enjoyed being around her.

Just adored your mother she was sunshine and fireworks and home cooking and the comedy channel all in one. Never a dull moment. Your speeches were beautiful. May you have beautiful stories that make you laugh out loud in your memories of her. One of my favorite (recurring) memories was her pulling up in the red beretta to our house. Which of course she had Nick-named. Not appropriate here. And of course all the creative pet names. Like Frank (the wiener dog) and Beans. Love you all. Karen Mike kathryn Matt and Meg cosgrove

To Billy & Casey, Ann & Eric & your kids-
As an “A Team” descendant, I can’t remember life without Susan. She has always been mom’s “such foolishness” friend. Many have beautifully expressed what an emotional loss this is - but let’s be honest, the economy will suffer as well....the IU Bookstore, Shipshewana wicker sales, farmer’s markets everywhere, Hallmark & any other producer of witty, inappropriate birthday wishes all stand to take a hit....
I’m sure I called her “Mrs. Lewis” as a young kid, but your mom was the first adult in my life, who, to call her anything other than Susan would have been awkward - even disrespectful...the depth of her love & friendship to all of us Keedy’s demands that she is “Susan”. Susan was the friend who took Mom’s distraught, middle-of-the-night phone calls during Bill’s battle with cancer, who took her dress shopping for both his & Dad’s funeral, and who loyally walked side-by-side with mom through every season of life - with grace & humor. With the emphasis on humor....loving, appropriate, silly & light hearted humor. While our personal interactions were sporadic, your mom has been the anchor to which the Keedy ship has been moored. I grieve with you in her passing, yet I am eternally grateful for the loving encouragement she’s given me during different trials in my life, and for how she modeled loving, loyal friendship to mom throughout our lifetimes.
Sending each of you much love today during her services, and into the days, weeks, and years ahead.

Dear Anne and Billy - and all of Susan's family ....
Susan was my best friend and, like others, I feel like a chunk of my heart has been ripped out. Your mom will be - and is - greatly missed.
Susan was the most loyal of friends, not just to me, but to all of the Keedy family. Whenever there was joy or sadness, your mom was the first call I made to share the news. We were dear friends and confidents. Her wisdom and advice will be greatly missed. And yet, Susan was so much more... IU's Biggest Fan, dog lover, Funny and "Punny" - her laugh was infectious and she always saw the positive in every situation.
From watching IU games, "A Team" gatherings, going to the IU/Purdue games, surprise birthday parties, hot air ballooning, white water rafting, Culver craft fairs, we were the best of pals and shared many memories from our PREPOSTEROUS ideas!!!
Looking back through the photos (the earliest I found goes back to 1979 on the pier with Kathy Curry) - weddings, funerals, birthdays, days at the lake - your mom was there. A steadfast friend who stood by me when Bill was sick, and then John. But most importantly, the friend whose friendship has - as your mom wrote last year on my birthday card - been served quite well by the "Marshall County Rule" ...
I miss her so much. Sending you hugs -
Sugar

Reading these treasured memories from friends and family have made me say over and over, “Yes, that’s so true... kindness, compassion, humor, friendship, family love, positivity and on and on...so truly Susan Lewis.” This loss to everyone seems impossible to absorb. Susan and I shared a friendship in the Progressive Club, and I always looked forward to seeing her and working with her. Susan was so much fun and probably never realized how many people admired and adored her. She will be truly missed. May we all be better people for having known and loved Susan.

I don't think Nancy and I will ever go on a cruise without remembering what joy, friendship, kindness and love that Susan brought to the cruises we were on together. The day after her passing, we received a note from her wishing us speedy recovery from Covid. That was the quintessential Susan . The world is not quite so bright and sunny without this lovely lady. We will miss her greatly.

When I think of Susan, I think of colors that change a gray day to one of brightness and light. Sunshine yellow for her smile, calming blues for her kindness and compassion, crimson for her love of IU and purples for her life of laughter and fun. I will miss her wit, caring nature and helpfulness. A party and a bridge game were better for her presence. We just have to look harder now to catch her glow. She will be dearly missed.

Susan and I were good friends with eight other girls at Bosse High High School in Evansville, Indiana, that graduated in 1958. We called ourselves the Dingbats! Susan never seemed to be sick, unhappy or sad; and she was always smiling!
In recent years we have spent many hours on the phone talking about our kids, grandchildren, IU sports and our every day lives.

Ann and Billy: I really don’t know to say how sad and shocked I am by your loss! I loved having you live behind me when we lived in Cool Creek. I remember when we came to your house for the IU games she always had “red hots” for us to eat! Will miss her a lot.

We are devastated at the passing of Susan. She was a very special person and a wonderful friend. Our kids have great memories of growing up across the street. The old neighborhood was a unique place and Susan helped to make it special. Ann and Billy, we keep you in our prayers during this very difficult time.

Peg and I were deeply saddened to learn of Susan's untimely death. We were long time friends beginning during our freshman days at I.U. and throughout my years at the I.U. School of Law. Our close friendship continued for many years after our I.U. days and included many very funny telephone conversations thereafter with reference to our children, grandchildren, and our many mutual friends. One of my last conversations, another very sad one, concerned the recent passing of our pal George Royster, a long time friend of Susan from Evansville and Bosse High School. I will not forget my many communications with both of these wonderful friends. Our condolences go out to Susan's children and their families from the entire Doolittle clan. Our thoughts are with them.

The words to describe Susan are all positive: loving to her friends, all animals and her family; funny and always ready to see the positive in life; working tirelessly to help Mary Rigg or a friend, and loved in return by all of us who will miss her sweet smile and special presence in our lives.

Words cannot describe Susan's character or depth of her heart and soul. She lived a life of kindness and sweetness and was an example to all of us who were her friends. I will always be grateful for her friendship and will miss her dearly. She lived a wonderful life of warmth and generosity. May her spirit feel the gift that she brought into our lives and she will never, ever be forgotten!!!!

Susan and I were childhood friends on Kelsey Avenue in Evansville and attended Harper Grade School following on to Bosse High School. We walked home together many times stopping off at Woods Drug Store for an afternoon treat. We went our separate ways for college but stayed in touch through our seventy years of friendship. We shared a meal every year when I visited my sister in Carmel. Lately we have been on the phone each month over our concern of our pal Suzanne Aiken in Evansville. I shall miss her friendship dearly but I will cherish the wonderful memories forever.

Ann and Billy, I’m just crushed. I looked so forward to your Mom coming in every 6 weeks to get her hair done. After 19 years we knew so much about each others lives and families.
We would always talk about our shows, current events and all the Hollywood gossip. We would laugh and shake our heads at the foolishness (her word not mine🤣) we were watching.
She was the most positive person that would always see the glass half full.
She was so proud of you both and all the Grandkids. There was never a time I saw her, that she didn’t talk about you all or a kids game she had been to. You guys were her greatest accomplishment.
Love to you both,
Missy Cardenas

Susan was my across-the-street neighbor where I grew up on Fairbanks Drive. She was loving; she was warm; she welcomed us all into her home, with the IU game blaring on the TV. I had the privilege of “hanging out with the adults,” as we watched Bob Knight coach the Hoosiers. Susan was like the book, “The Giving Tree.” She let me climb her beautiful front yard tree, day after day. She made young children feel welcome (and expected!) at gatherings. I remember that I hated leaving her house: it was like leaving a warm blanket behind.
Most recently, she made me laugh with her Bernie memes and her emojis and funny comments. She made me laugh, but she made everyone laugh. I’m 43 and will never forget my childhood with Ann and Billy and Susan and dogs Frank and Beans on Fairbanks Dr.

Susan and I were Delta Gamma pledge sisters at IU many years ago. She was such a hoot! Loved her sense of humor and enthusiasm. We saw each other only a few times over the years because I was out of the country or living far away, but when we did, we could pick up the thread of our friendship right away. As was everyone else here, I was shocked to learn of her passing. But please know that she was a delightful person from the start. May her memory be a blessing.

So many memories of times with Susan— A team, bridge group, volunteer activities. Susan was always involved and helping so many people. One of the kindest person I knew. She will be so missed with her love of puns, IU basketball, Anne and Billy and her grandchildren. What a loss for so many who loved her. Condolences to her family and legion of friends. Love and sorrow,.

Ann and Billy, Len and I are just crushed at the sad and very unexpected news of your mother's passing. She and I had big plans for a tour of the Fountain Square area in the near future to check out the home revamps done on the Good Bones TV show. She leaves a big hole in the entire "Cool Creek Gang" and will be sorely missed by all. Please let me know if there is anything Len and I can do to be of help.

Ann & Bill,
I am in shock! Your mom called me Monday afternoon. We talked for over an hour. Even though Tom & I live in Florida, she and I had long phone chats four or five times a year. Our years together at Imprints hold many memories. She was a dear friend to me and I will cherish her forever.
Tom joins me in sending our love and sympathy
