Timothy O'Rourke McSoley

Tim grew up in Indianapolis, where he and his brother Tom caused fun-loving mischief and lovingly tormented their sisters Susan and Carol. His father, Joe, owned McSoley Pharmacy. Tim became a pro at running the cash register, sparking a lifelong proficiency with numbers. He was a talented multi-sport athlete at Northview Junior High. It was there that he forged lifelong friendships with a group that would later become known as “The Mafia.” They rode their bikes all over the north side and loved spending time at the Jordan YMCA (especially in the summer when girls went to the outdoor pool). At the age of 13, Tim was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He graduated from North Central High School, where he was a strong student and enjoyed driving his yellow dune buggy. While attending SMU, he had a diabetic medical emergency that led to nerve damage and loss of most of his eyesight. He persevered, earning both his Bachelor’s and MBA degrees from Indiana University.

He moved back to Indianapolis, where he launched a successful career as a Certified Financial Planner. Tim met Kate one day when his sister Carol dragged him along on a shopping trip. He was stunned by Kate’s personality and beauty. He mustered the courage to give her his number….and the rest is history. Kate was the love of his life; soon they were married. He was a natural with her two kids, Jake and Abby. He became an all-star dad, helping with homework, playing driveway basketball and giving love and support daily as they navigated the challenges of life.

Tim was a man of great integrity and character. He was a proud husband and dad who cared deeply for his wife, children and grandchildren. He was honest, even when it was hard. He was intelligent and well-spoken. He was compassionate and generous. He made sure to stay informed by reading the paper daily, with Diet Pepsi in hand. But he was equal parts silly and responsible. He always had a joke ready, and his blue eyes sparkled behind his glasses when he laughed. He adored goofing around with his two grandsons, Jackson and Jace. Whether it was teaching them how to shoot rubber bands, telling jokes, or throwing axes with “the boys,” he had an ear-to-ear smile when they were around. He also had a true green thumb and spent hours taking care of his plants.

Tim is predeceased by his wife (Kate) and father (Joe). He is survived by his mother (Mary), and children Jake (Jenn) Reardon McSoley of Fishers and Abby Reardon of Indianapolis. He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandsons Jackson and Jace Reardon McSoley, as well as his brother Tom (Betsy) McSoley, sisters Susan (Jim) Foust and Carol McSoley Sluder. Tim will also be remembered by his nephews Matt McSoley, Joe (Maria) McSoley, and Brian (Naomi) Foust as well as his nieces Sara (Michael) Spears, Christine (Jonathan) Dawe, Kathryn (Sandy) Montero, Mary Sluder and Anna Sluder. He also leaves behind a loving in-law family including his sister-in-law Janet McIntyre, brother-in-law Stephen (Kendall) Stout, nieces Meg (Jared) McIntyre and Martha Stout, and nephews Andrew (Eric) McIntyre and Trevor Stout. Tim will also be forever remembered by his numerous great nieces & nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, extended family and dear friends.

A Celebration of Tim’s Life will be held on November 16th at Leppert Mortuary Nora (740 East 86th St Indianapolis, IN 46240). Visitation will be from 1- 2:00PM, with a Celebration of Life Service following at 2:00PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in honor of Tim McSoley may be contributed to the Indiana Pharmacists Association-McSoley Fund (indianapharmacy.org). This scholarship is for students at the Butler, Purdue and Manchester Schools of Pharmacy.
