William H. "Bill" Johnson, 86, a man whose warmth and magnetic presence touched all who knew him, passed away on April 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of connection, humor, and quiet strength. Though his name may have been common, his impact was anything but. Bill was a unique blend of Clint Eastwood's rugged resilience and Tom Cruise's adventurous spirit.
Born in Danville, Illinois on April 18, 1939, Bill was raised by his mother, Audrey Marie Cory, and grandparents, Verna and Emmett Cory. After serving in the U.S. Army, Bill moved to California, where he married Connie, raising her son Doug as his own and welcoming their daughter, Kristine Marie. Doug predeceased him.
Bill’s career was a testament to his charisma and entrepreneurial spirit. After excelling in car sales and insurance sales, he founded Group Benefits Services, one of Indiana’s largest insurance brokerages. He made his mark in the industry, driven by ambition and his genuine ability to connect with people.
Bill’s home in Indianapolis was his sanctuary, reflecting his love for life and family. He was a prolific gardener, a skilled golfer, an expert pool player, and an avid cyclist, always living life to the fullest. His legendary Memorial Day parties and his BMW motorcycle were symbols of his adventurous spirit.
Bill is survived by his wife, MiSuk; his loving daughter, Kris Hallbom (Tim Hallbom); his sisters, Barbara Rozgonyi (Bruce Svoboda, and their children, Phoebe, Peter, and Warren) and Lori Rozgonyi (Ted Gregorek, and their children, Andrea and Patrick); as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 17, at Roberts Park United Methodist Church, 401 N. Delaware Street in Indianapolis. Bill’s motto, "Together we are one, apart we are none," encapsulated his belief in the power of connection and community.
To carry Bill’s caring spirit forward, the family invites memorial contributions to Soup’s On https://www.robertsparkumc.org/soups-on or Indy Humane https://indyhumane.org/.
