It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and untimely passing of Accacia Nantau at the age of 35. Accacia came bouncing into the world on January 28, 1988 to her loving parents, Colette Burke and Warren Yipp. Accacia grew up in Inverness where she made her mark in the world, down the Red Rows. She was a force to be reckoned with even from a young age. She would always stand up for what was right but did so in a way that made you feel you were learning a lesson. Accacia had friends from all walks of life. She never judged or cast stones at anyone. Accacia knew what it was like to overcome unimaginable things and do so with a smile on her face. When her little sister Leelyn came into the world, Accacia took her under her wing. She protected her at all costs. They had battles of their own but no one could ever mess with Accacia’s little sister.
After high school, Accacia wanted to branch off into the world to become a fashion designer, she moved to Montreal, where she expanded her friend group and touched the hearts of so many. Although her fashion designing career didn’t work out, she always was the best dressed. Even if her outfit only cost $6 from Value Village, she had style that made heads turn, if her infectious laugh didn’t do so already. She moved back to Halifax, where she was one of the most vibrant and welcoming waitresses to ever come to Jack Astors. People requested to sit in Accacia's section of the restaurant because they knew her positive attitude, charm and quick wit would somehow brighten their day. When Accacia had Penny Lu, her world changed for the better. She loved fiercely and selflessly. She protected and cared for this little human like the superhero she was. Accacia did everything she could to instill values in Penny and create the old soul that Penny is. When we look at Penny we will see little Accacia and be reminded to smile, treat people kindly and never judge. Accacia moved to Kempt Shore and expanded her friend group once again. How is it possible to touch people from all around the world and make time for those people each and every day? Well she did that, whether that was through a text message, a poem, a pun, tagging them in a silly meme, sending them silly videos of herself, Penny or Nugget (their furry friend), she made it happen and there’s not too many people that could do that. She always had time for everyone.
Accacia moved back to Inverness in 2022, which was unbeknownst, the last year of her life. Her old friendships were rekindled and picked up exactly where they left off without skipping a beat. Accacia graced more people with her presence, working at Whit’s Pub and Freeman’s Pharmacy and sharing her bright, shining light with all who crossed her path. She could single-handedly turn your day from sorrow to hope for tomorrow. She was a beacon of light that no one could dim. She radiated positivity. Accacia will want us to remember her when we hear music that we can’t help but dance to, when we put on our best red lipstick, when we hear that first crack of a good lightning storm, when we see that first sun kissed freckle, when we feel the sand between our toes or are mesmerized by the glowing sunset.
Accacia is survived by her daughter, Penny Lu; grandparents, John and Lucy Burke; nanny, Patsy Gillis; mother, Colette Burke; father Warren Yipp; sister, Leelyn Yipp (Donald); niece, Summer and nephews, Levi and Meverick; her Aunt Melinda, Aunt Pam (Johnny), Uncle George, Uncle Jon Jon and her many cousins. Accacia is predeceased by her grandfather, Jon Yipp and Uncle Lance Yipp.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Monday, November 27, 2023 from 6-9 pm in Whitt's Public House, Inverness.
