

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our brother/uncle Sandy, Wednesday. March 30th, in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.
Sandy was born on September 8th, 1942 to the late Owen Dan and Jessie(Beaton)Gillis.
Sandy spent the majority of his life in Inverness, was employed over the years in a variety of jobs, retiring from his last employment, which was at STORA.
Sandy felt great pleasure from visits from his nieces and nephews and the feeling was mutual. He valued his friends from the harness racing industry and those in the community with whom he would meet to exchange stories at the coffee shop and in his barn at the track. Sandy was known to be most generous to others in need and always put others before himself.
Sandy is survived by siblings, Frank(Alice), Inverness; Marie(Joe) MacRae, Michigan; Lorne(Marguerite)Inverness; Joyce(David)Gillis, Scotsville; Gwen, Inverness; Joan(Hugh) Cameron, Scotsville ; Monica(John)MacLennan, Blues Mills; Jane, Mabou; Ernest(Pauline), Mabou; Brenda(Sandy)Gillis, Inverness and Carol Gillis, Mabou. Sandy is also survived by 22 nieces and nephews, and 15 grandnieces and grandnephews. Predeceased by parents and infant nephew, Ernest Warren.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral Home, Sunday, April 3rd, from 7-9pm and Monday, April 4th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held Tuesday, April 5th at 11a.m. in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Inverness with Father Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial will follow in the Stella Maris Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sandy may be made to Inverness Palliative Care or to the charity of one’s choice.
