

Age 78, of Port Hood, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2016 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, Inverness, after a brief battle with cancer. She was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Born in Glencoe Station, Annie Mae was the daughter of the late John Hector and Mary Anne (Beaton) Gillis. Annie Mae retired to Port Hood after working the majority of her life in Ontario but her heart never left Cape Breton. Annie Mae cherished family and friend and was giving volunteer, community and church member throughout her life. She loved to entertain family and friends and always enjoyed a game of cards. She is predeceased by her husband of 49 years, the late John MacEachen. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Charlene, Halifax; Derrick and Sandra, Georgetown, Ont.; her beloved grandchildren, Bradley, Ryan, Ian and Kelsey; sister and brother-in-law, Cassie and Leo MacDonald; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Barbara Gillis; many nieces, nephews and friends. Annie Mae was also predeceased by her brother John Donald Gillis and her son Ian. Visitation will be on Friday August 19, from 3-5pm and 7-9pm in the Port Hood and Area Resting Place. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, August 20 at 11am in St. Peter’s Church, Port Hood with Fr. Vincent VanZutphen officiating, burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
