The whole world is at a loss, a man who touched more lives than anyone could count has left us all suddenly, with heavy hearts. Colin Shawn Basker passed away February 25th, 2016. He was born in Inverness, Cape Breton on October 14th 1971, where he spent his entire life. Here he met and married the love of his life, Darlene Basker (MacLean) 22 years ago. Together they raised 3 beautiful children, Brenton, William and his little girl, Rebecca. Remembering him daily with endless love are his mother, Helen; sister, Lorrie (Harold), sister, Arlene (James); and brother, Roger (Jane); along with his other adoring family, mother and father-in-law, Florence and Harold MacLean; brothers-in-law, Harold Jr., Stephen (Beth); and sister-in-law, Sadie (Laci). Also survived by his many nieces, nephews and extended family. Colin Shawn loved with every inch of his heart, throughout his life he would give all he had in every relationship. He was never afraid to speak his mind. He made friends everywhere he went, and strong connections that will last an eternity. Even in death, he continued to give as an organ donor. He was a hardworking man who dedicated many hours as a heavy equipment operator for Zupthen Contractors and was a proud Volunteer Firefighter for the Inverness Fire Department. He was passionate about many things; his son’s hockey team, harness racing, lobster fishing, heavy equipment, protecting anyone who needed it and above all, his family. Colin’s pride and joy was his loving wife, and beautiful children who he loved more than anything. In his honor he would expect us all to raise a glass, and have a laugh because it’s exactly what he would do if he were by our sides. He joins his son, Christopher Harold; father, Christopher; brother Wesley and his nephew-in-law Jamie McMullin who have all gone before him. There will be no Funeral Service. A celebration of Colin's life will be held on Tuesday March 1 in Inverness Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Burial to take place at a later date. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
