Duncan Ronald "Rannie" Gillis

It is with deep sadness we, the family announce the passing of Rannie Gillis, age 59 of Broad Cove, Cape Breton. Rannie died peacefully at home on Gillis Mountain on December 6, 2014, surrounded by his daughters. He was the son of Flora Belle Gillis and the late Simon Gillis of Broad Cove.

Rannie was well known for his sense of humour, love of reading, strong work ethic, and goodness to his many friends. He enjoyed square dancing, walking and visiting with his neighbours. Rannie was employed at Stora Forest Industries for many years and also worked in Alberta. He is predeceased by sisters, Joan Ann (infant), Marion Evans and Ann Basker; brother, Lawrence Alexander (infant); and granddaughter, Emma MacDonald (infant). Rannie is survived by his three daughters, Lori Ann, Robin and Erin Gillis (Adam MacDonald); his mother, Flora Belle, Inverary Manor; brothers, Neil Joseph, Broad Cove; and Donald Anthony, Edmonton, Alta.; his sister, Barbara MacEachern, Toronto, Ont.; his grandsons, Ryan and Ash MacDonald; as well as his many nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank family, friends and neighbours during the past few months. A special thanks to Bobby Gillis, Cheryl MacEachern, and John and Lorraine MacDonald for all their support and help. Sincere gratitude to all those involved in his care including Dr. MacLauchlan, Dr. Bennett, Dr. Ritter, Dr. MacCormick and the Oncology nurses at ICMH. Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral home on Wednesday, December 10 from 4-9 p.m.The funeral mass will be officiated by Father Danny MacLennan on Thursday December 11 at 11:00 AM in Parish Church of St. Margaret of Scotland, Broad Cove.
