Son of the late Peter John and Ruth (Higgins) MacKay passed away peacefully at the Inverness Hospital after a brief illness with his family by his side. Born, raised, and lived his entire life in Inverness. Survived by his wife Mavis (Cummings) MacKay, his children Keith (Marla) of Otterbrook; Kevin, Carman of Inverness; Lois (Bobby) of Inverness; Lori, Kelly of Toronto; his sister Annie (MacKay) Jones of Peterborough, Ontario. He was a loving papa to grandchildren Carl, Johnny, Rhyann, Darcey, Erica, Kyle, Dean, Lisa, and Maria as well as several nieces and nephews. Also left to mourn Alex is a tremendous community of faithful and caring friends. He was predeceased by brothers Dan G., Lybison, Jackie, Nelson, and sisters Mary, Isabel, and Evelyn. For over 30 years he served as Postmaster to Inverness and was a tireless volunteer for many local organizations very near and dear to his heart. Alex was a faithful member of the St. Matthew’s United Church. He had a deep love for gaelic, Scottish music, poetry, and sports (Wings & Jays). His sharp wit entertained many and never will be forgotten. It is with heavy hearts that we will bid our final farewell to Alex Tuesday, September 27th at St. Matthews United Church, Inverness, with visitation from 12:30 to 1:30 followed by a memorial service at 2pm., Pastor Maggie Plant presiding. Last interment will be held at a later date at Whale Cove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Matthews United Church, Inverness or a charity of your choice.
