Gerald Gregory Grant , Age 85, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019 in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney after many years of a courageous and dignified battle with cancer. Born in Inverness he was a son of the late Alice Donahue and Allan Grant. He was a graduate of Holy Family School, Inverness, St Francis Xavier University, Antigonish; and the Nova Scotia Technical University, (Dalhousie University), Halifax. In 1995, he retired from his career as Vice Principal of The Nova Scotia Institute of Technology where he enjoyed the reputation of a highly respected teacher, educator and administrator. With a committed interest in horse racing, Gerald was a very active member of the Inverness harness racing community and participant in the rebuilding and success of the Inverness Raceway. He also served for many years on the board of The Nova Scotia Racing Commission.
Besides his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his sisters, Teresa Grant and Elaine Grant. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Cyril Grant, (Bernice), Antigonish; sister, Dr. Mary Grant, Halifax; sister, Anne Flinn, (late Bill), Halifax; nephews, Bruce Flinn, (Teresa), Scott Flinn, (Karen), and niece, Carla Grant. He had cherished relationships with Denise and Elena Corra. He also had many special friends throughout the province including the Deganis family. From childhood to the present Gerald was a member and supporter of Stella Maris Church, Inverness where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 2nd, at 11am., with visitation from 10- 10:45 a.m. Burial to follow in the family plot in the parish cemetery. A reception will follow at the Inverness Fire Hall on Central Avenue. Family flowers only. Donations in Gerald's name made be made to a charity of one's choice. The family are deeply appreciative of the community of Inverness which extended exceptional support to Gerald and particularly thank members of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney and the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.
