On September 10, 2015, Gerard Joseph MacNeil left us peacefully to join his parents, the late John F. "Jack" MacNeil and Mary E. (MacKenzie) MacNeil, his brothers Ronald "Brother" and Daniel, his sister Margaret "Peggy" , his infant son Joseph. Gerard accomplished much as a teacher, a favourite with principals and students who were "disciplinary headaches". He never lost this ability to have a beautiful rapport with young people and in 1983, after he returned from his surgery to remove a brain aneurysm, he opened his heart and his home "The Joint" to all young people, sharing his wisdom, his joy, his laughter, the love of his faith and the recitation of the Rosary, his ability to engage the young people with games, especially "Catch the Peppermint", cribbage, card games and exchanging stories. It was always his hope that this legacy will continue to endure, especially the need to go to Sunday Mass. He leaves behind his brothers and sisters, Francis (Viola), Paul (Anne Marie), Ann (Eddy) Landry, Eileen Delaney, Andrea Oulton, John A. "B" (Joanne) and James "Jimmy" (Edna), his many nieces and nephews, their spouses and families and last, but not least, his loving wife "Vicki" and daughter Mary-Frances (Michael) Laflamme and their son, Daniel. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 16th from 10-10:45 am with funeral mass to follow at 11:00 am. Fr. Duncan MacIsaac will be officiating. No flowers please - A donation to St. Charles Lwanga Children's Center c/o Chalice and Inverness County Cares or any charitable organization will be deeply appreciated by Gerard.
