Dear Vicki,
My sympathy and prayers on the death of Gerard. I recall from our last conversation Vicki, you were telling me he was slowing down a bit. I would go down for the funeral but my schedule doesn't permit it. I, like many others, have great memories of Gerard and his ministry to young people. He touched so many of them over his life time. I real open and honest heart. God will receive him gloriously. I will have a mass for him.

I was very saddened to hear of my lifelong friend Gerard McNeil's passing. My heart goes out to Vicki, Mary Francis and the family. I can remember going to Gerard and Vicki's ever since I was a young child. I would go and sit at the table with the Gerard listen to Cher (if I could turn back time and just like Jesse James). While Vicki was in the kitchen and we would all chat.  I also remember going over there when I was a teenager hunkering down on the telephones with Jimmy Delaney calling other kids our age and seeing if they wanted to join us for church on Saturdays. I spent a lot of time there over the years and I'm very thankful to have had a spot like that joint to hang out and as I grew up. Vicki and Gerard opened their home to dozens and dozens of teenagers over the years and welcomed them in, as if they were their own. Whether just to come in and have a chat, play a video game, look at old pictures, have some popcorn, or just chat with your peers are among some of the things we would do.  A birthday was never complete without getting a call from Gerard. You always knew he was the one person that would not forget your birthday.
When my father passed I spent a lot of time over there just talking to Gerard and Vicki. They were a great support team for young child losing her father. I remembered Gerard gave me a set of blue prayer beads, during that time, that I still have to this day. When I would go over and visit after high school my thing with Gerard was I would knock on the door and he would say come in, and I keep knocking on the door and he would say come  in and then after about 2 or 3 times of that he would start laughing and say Hayley come in because he knew it was me.  He will be forever missed.  Heaven has gained a true angel.

Well Gerard!...you can finally settle back and relax!   I remember how excited I was to meet you when I first arrived in Canada.  Then I was not so excited when I learned you were going to be my math teacher...!  I respected you for your toughness.  I remember how you had my back when I confronted the roudy teens and most of all I remember your generosity when you bought me my first set of snow tires as you knew I could not afford them.  I finally got a chance to talk with Vicki tonight and I told her that you were looking down at her through the windows saying "Vicki...close those curtains!"  We are relieved that your suffering is over. Have fun in heaven brother. You deserve it!

Dear Vicki, Mary Frances and family. I am so sorry for your loss. As a teenager growing up in Inverness, many a weekend I spent at your house. I admired your family dynamic but most of all, you had my respect. We used to have endless conversations. Your passing is a great loss to the community. So sorry to hear about your loss.  He was not only a loss to you but a loss to the community of Inverness. Although, I haven't seen you guys for close to 30 years, I still remember traveling to Inverness for the weekends, hearing Gerry say, "Hughie, you're a good boy!" and going to Saturday evening mass along with 10 other Inverness youth he took to church with him.  Also the yearly birthday cards with every word in the passages underlined.  He's in better hands now.
