It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Harold "Jim" MacFarlane, 56, in Upper Margaree on August 9, 2021, surrounded by the love and support of his family. This past year he bravely fought a battle with cancer. Jim was born December 7, 1964, to Harold and Margaret Ann MacFarlane of Upper Margaree.
He worked as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic for over 30 years. He was very well respected for his vast knowledge of the trade. He started at Atlantic Cat in Halifax, married and lived in Enfield then moved to Fort McMurray in 2005. There, he worked at many locations and started his own company, MacFarlane Mechanical. He met many colleagues over the years who became lifelong friends. In 2014, he returned to his beloved family farm. He continued to work and finished his career at Zutphen Contractors.
He was a hard-working, strong, common sense kind of man. A loving husband, father, brother and uncle. A true handyman, who was always willing to help his family, friends, and neighbors. If you had a problem, you called Jim. He was a proud MacFarlane who loved his home on the “Hill”, which he so lovingly cared for.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Susan (MacNeil); his son, Colin; brother, Frank (Leann- deceased); sisters, Alice (Farlane) Gillis, Sara (Rick), Maureen (Alfred) MacIver, Sharon (Patrick); brothers-in-law, Michael A MacNeil, Bill MacNeil; sister-in-law, Mabel (Johnie) MacFarlane; and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his uncle, Jim (Shirley) MacFarlane; and aunt, Sr. Mary MacFarlane. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Mark; and sister, Patricia.
We would like to extend special thanks to the Oncology nurses at the Inverness Hospital, Dr. Saliba, and the amazing Palliative Care Team led by Dr. Ritter. We are truly thankful to the wonderful care provided by the MacFarlane family, especially his niece Heather; sisters, Sharon and Maureen; and sister-in-law, Mabel.
Cremation has taken place. A wake will be held on Sunday, August 15th in Lake Ainslie Fire Hall, Scotsville from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be for family and invited guests only (due to Covid-19 restrictions).
