On Thursday morning at 8:45 A. M., John Malcolm (Mack) Beaton completed his pilgrimage here on Earth, and moved on to the promised glory and company of those family members who had passed on before him. Mack was born on Sept. 29th., 1936 to parents Finley Beaton , and Mary Anne (MacDonell) Beaton. Mack was predeceased by brothers Fr. Angus, and John, and sister Jenny and brother-in-law, Stanley MacNeil, sister-in-law Josepha (Roddie) Beaton and grand niece Krista Ward. He is survived by one brother, Alex Roderick (Roddie) of Halifax, and sisters Anne (Rudy) Schuurmans of Edmonton, Alberta, and Marie (Owen) Cameron of West Mabou. He is also survived by nephews Alex and Angus MacNeil, Derrick and Geoffrey Cameron, Angus Schuurmans, Gordie Beaton, and Stephen Beaton, and nieces Betty Anne MacQuarrie, Genevieve Beaton, Denice Lalande, Anke (Schuurmans) Banks, and Alisha MacLellan. Plus five grand nephews, eight great grand nephews, four grand nieces and one great grand niece. In his early years, like other young men at the time, Mack worked where work was available, such as on the roads, as helper on lobster boats, and in the woods with his very good friend, Joe (John A. John Mary) MacDonald. During it all, he dairy farmed until his health limited his activities. He left the running of the farm to his nephew, Derrick, never losing interest, and maintaining control. In recent years, Mack passed the time watching T.V., and going to evening card games, which he seldom missed. He was always ready to challenge anyone who came through the door to a game, with his bid of 30 for 60, for which he was well known. Mack enjoyed every visitor who came to the family home in West Mabou, especially children. Mack was fortunate to always have children and young people in his life who enjoyed card games and shuffle board with him, and who loved him dearly. Mack was thankful for the excellent card he received at the Inverness Hospital, and the QEII in Halifax, and for the many visitors he had.
