It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Judith Hannah MacDonald of Port Hood in her 66th year. After many years of illness, Hannah passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 13th, 2021, Inverary Manor, Inverness, with her devoted husband, Sam, by her side. Born on October 28th 1954, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, she was the youngest of nine children—a daughter of the late Joseph and Caroline (Keough) DeLeskie. Hannah was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She will be fiercely remembered for her kindness and humor, as well as for the uniqueness of her character and the freedom of her spirit. From her time as a social worker, Hannah was a committed mental health advocate. She made significant efforts to reduce stigma and support the recovery of those suffering from alcoholism and addiction. In her day-to-day life, she had a passion for interior design, writing, reading, and music. She also loved her animals and could often be found with a cat on her lap. Hannah is survived by her loving husband, Sam; children, Kelly, Matthew (Kristin), and Carrie; siblings, Ron (Mary) and Rachelle (Bruce); and grandchildren, Lauren, Lucy, and John. She will be sorely missed by all her DeLeskie and MacDonald family, as well as her many friends and neighbours in the community. The family is especially grateful for Hannah’s close friends, Mary Buchanan and Rita Campbell, for all their love, generosity, and support over the years. Besides her parents, Hannah was predeceased by her siblings, Carl, Gerard, Mary Marcella, Jean, Celeste, and Paul. Donations in Hannah’s memory may be made to the Inverary Manor, Inverness, where much care was taken by staff to ensure the highest quality of life during her final weeks. Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 22, from 10-10:45 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, Port Hood with Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father Vincent vanZutphen officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
