It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Mom, Mary Elizabeth Ross “Betty”, as she was known to us all, passed peacefully from lung disease on June 12, 2021, in Baddeck surrounded with love.
Betty was born February 18, 1952 to the late Loretta and Donald Ross.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Leigh Anne (David Buchanan), Baddeck; sons, Darcy Shaw (Florence) Edmonton; Owen Shaw (Nastasha) Edmonton; her beloved grandchildren, Carson and Sam Buchanan, Ashlyn, Dayna and Jack Shaw, and Emily Shaw; sister, Joanne Ayre (Alex), Sydney; brothers, Alex (Margaret) Allen (Barbara), Leonard (Martine) all of Margaree; Trevor (Kimberley), Elmsdale; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Betty’s greatest joy in life was her children. She was a constant support and loving Mom. Always there where and when she was needed!
Betty loved her grandchildren and enjoyed watching them perform, weather it was theatre, dance or hockey she never missed an opportunity to cheer them on. She especially enjoyed her visits to Alberta to spend time with her family.
In the earlier years Betty was involved in the North East Margaree Home and School Association and actively involved with starting the Margaree Valley Nursery School. Betty met many acquaintances and friends during her time working at the Margaree Co-op. After moving to Baddeck she enjoyed her time volunteering with the residence of the Alderwood Nursing Home. She also became an active member of the Baddeck Legion Branch No. 53.
Betty always had a project of knitting or cross stitch on the go, but one of her favourite pastimes was playing cards with her friends and grandchildren. She enjoyed summer days at the beach and winter evenings playing darts at the legion. You were lucky if you were on her Christmas list for her famous peanut butter balls.
Betty enjoyed her years living at the Baddeck Seniors Residence. “The Ladies” were some of the most important people to her. The friendship and support of her “buddy” Joyce Ingraham was some thing very dear to Betty and to us, her family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Genge, Palliative Care team, Dr. Ritter and nurse Paulette, Contining Care nursing and the home support staff of Victoria County . A special thank you to care provider Jennifer Dominey, we can’t thank you enough for your compassion and friendship towards Mom and our family.
Visitation will be held in St. Michael's Church, East Margaree on Wednesday July 21st from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. with Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father MacDonald Ibeh officiating. Burial in St. Patrick's Parish Cemetery, Northeast Margaree.
Memorial Donations can be made to the Hospice Society of Victoria County or Royal Canadian Legion Baddeck Branch No. 53.
