Neil was a lifelong member of the Iron Workers Union Local 752. He worked and travelled throughout Canada as an iron worker/welder all his life. Neil was a devoted family man who cared deeply for all those he loved. His granddaughter Lauren meant the world to him, and they shared a very special bond.
Neil is survived by his wife, Mary J. Gillis; daughter, Barbara (Stephen); and son, Bradley.
He is also survived by his sister, Barbara; and brother, Anthony (Ellen); as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Simon and Flora Belle Gillis; as well as his sisters, Anne and Marion; and his brother, Rannie.
Neil was known for his kind nature and willingness to help anyone who needed it. His smile and laughter will always be remembered by those who loved him.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia and would be appreciated by the family.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Broad Cove on Friday, February 13th, at 11:00 a.m.
