Neil Joseph Smith Sr.

Neil was born in Inverness, on September 27, 1932, to the late John Alex "Joe" and Sarah Belle (MacIsaac) Smith. He was a member of Stella Maris Parish, Inverness. Neil is survived by his devoted and cherished wife, Theresa (Poirier); sons, Neil Jr. (Mary), Inverness; and Sheldon (Angela), Port Hawkesbury; daughters, Lillian Smith, Donna (Daniel) MacDonnell and Patricia (Michael) MacIsaac, all of Inverness. Besides his wife and family, Neil is also survived by brothers, Earl (Ruth), Hamilton, Ont.; Wayne (Joanne), Antigonish; Kirk Smith, Inverness; Marvin (Theresa), Inverness; sisters, Johnena (late Bill) Vollett, Hamilton, Ont.; and Sister Leona, CND, Sydney. Also surviving Neil are aunts, Ann (John) Harris, Niagara Falls, Ont,; Jessie (Bernard) Cameron, Mabou, Leona (John) Shaw, West Lake Ainslie, and John (Mary) Kennedy, Allison, Ont. Extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law all grieve his passing. Neil, "Grampy" lived for his grandchildren and they had a very special place in his heart; Daniel, Jonathan and Richard MacDonnell, Michael and Bradley MacIsaac, Morgann and Avery Smith, and Donald James Hannigan.

Neil was predeceased by his brother, Ron (2003); sister, Jess (2008) and aunts and uncles of the Smith, Kennedy and MacIsaac families.

Cremation has taken place. The late Neil Joseph Smith will rest in Inverness Funeral Home on Monday, May 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, in Stella Maris Church, Inverness with Fr. Bernie MacDonald officiating. Interment in the Parish Cemetery.
