Inverness, on April 9, 1959, he was the son of the late Michael Ernest and Catherine Anne
(Campbell) Cannon. Paul had deep faith and treasured family above all things. He was a caring
and loving father and grandfather. Paul (aka Boomer) played and coached hockey, spending
hours at arenas watching his children and grandchildren take to the sport that he loved so
much. Paul also enjoyed harness racing, playing cards (particularly a lively game of SCAT),
watching his beloved New York Islanders, hunting and travelling the backroads of Inverness
County. Paul & Sheila welcomed many of all ages to their home. He thoroughly enjoyed those
times, in this place that was affectionately coined “Cannon Country”. Paul worked at the
Department of Transportation for 30 years, where he made many lifelong and cherished
friends. With his quick wit, generous heart and warm hugs; Paul made each one of us feel like
we were his favorite. Paul’s cheerful ‘hi buddy’ meant that he was there, not only to talk but to
listen. A true friend to all, he will be greatly missed.
Paul was a devoted husband to the love of his life and wife of 38 years, Sheila (Dobbin) Cannon;
dedicated father to their children, Katie (Callum) McDaniel, Julie (Colin Allen), Daniel (Keisha)
and Kevin. Paul was beloved grampie to Rowen, Carly, Hannah and Finley McDaniel, Kieran
Allen, Eli and Carson Cannon. Also left to grieve their dear brother, are Jackie Campbell (late
Patricia) of Rossport, Ont.; Florence McGary (Tom) of Framingham, Mass.; Shirley Campbell
(Sam) of Milford, Mass.; Ernest Cannon (Pauline) of Holiston, Mass.; Lorraine MacDonald (Brian) and
Barbara Cannon MacDonald (Edward) of Port Hood. Paul was also dearly loved by his
mother-in-law Mary Dobbin; extended family Coleen & Lauchie MacIsaac, Greg and Elizabeth
Dobbin, Blaise and Michelle Dobbin and Patrick and Susan Dobbin. Paul was also a much-loved
uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. Besides his parents, Paul was predeceased by his
father-in-law Charles (Chuck) Dobbin.
