It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, June Shirley Ann (MacInnis) Kelly. Born June 3, 1940, Shirley passed away in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital on March 17, 2019.
She was a daughter of the late Joe Harper and Elizabeth (Larade). She is survived by her children, Bob, Hamilton, ON.; Gwen "Teddy" (Kevin), Truro; Frank (Josephine), Dartmouth; Donna "Cookie", Inverness. Along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren she is also survived by brother, Stanley; sisters, Kaye, Sandra and Ann. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Frank MacInnis; second husband, Edward Kelly; sisters, Dorothy, Josephine, Mona; brothers, Johnny and Clemmie; as well as two young sons, Georgie and Neilie.
Shirley had a few different jobs over the years, the last of which was working in the housekeeping department of Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.
Her all time joy was to feed people. If you ever left Shirley's house hungry that would not have been because she didn't feed you or offer to feed you. When it came to having company, she always had the meals planned well in advance. Even while sick in the hospital, she was planning our meals for us. She always knew everyone's favorites, from steak dinner for her brother Johnny to Waffles for the grandkids, and she made the best butterscotch pie we ever had!
She will be missed by her family who will always hold a special place in their hearts for Mom/Mom Shirley.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 20th, from 10-10:45 a.m. in Stella Maris Church, Inverness with Funeral Mass to follow at 11 a.m.; Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society.
