Theresa Helen “Twee” (Poirier) Smith, daughter of the late Sandy and Maggie (Cormier) Poirier, passed peacefully with her family by her side on February 25, 2021, in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. A member of the Stella Maris Parish, Inverness. She is predeceased by Neil, her beloved husband of 54 years. A caring and loving mother to Lillian, Neil, Donna (Danny) MacDonnell, Patricia (Michael) MacIsaac, and Sheldon. The center of her universe was her family. Especially her 7 grandchildren Daniel, Jonathan, Richard, Michael (Kim), Bradley (Lori), Morgann, and Avery. Faithful sister to Phyllis (Benny) MacKinnon and predeceased by sisters, Yvonne (Laurie) Lunn, Molly (Buddy) Timmons, Lillian (in infancy) and brothers, Simon (Sylvia), Ernest (Shirley), and Charles (Colette).
Everyone who met Twee was immediately welcomed and befriended. She looked forward to spending time with family, going to Chase the Ace, and enjoying everyone’s company. Her infectious laugh filled every room she entered, and her underestimated sense of wit added a spark to every conversation. She was a perfect example of how you do not need to have a lot to be able to spread joy and love to others.
Her extended family, friends, in-laws, as well as the members of the Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and all her nieces and nephews will all have their own fond memories to be treasured and stories to tell. She was particularly dedicated to the Ladies Auxiliary, and took great satisfaction in making sure that everyone at a fire hall event was cared for and enjoyed themselves. A very special thank you to Sister Leona Smith, CND for all her love and prayers. T also had a special place in her heart for Brandon and Logan.
A special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of ICMH. A simple thank you is not enough. We also want to thank Kevin and Tonya for their thoughtful and compassionate care of our beloved Twee.
A private graveside service for family and friends will be held on Thursday July 25 in Stella Maris parish cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Central Inverness Palliative Care Society.
