

Murphy William Bowden -Age 73, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2014, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by family. Bowden was a son of the late John K and Emma May (Reynolds) Murphy. Born in Inverness on March 3, 1940. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Port Hood.
Bowden in his lifetime enjoyed what he did best, farming the land and harvesting the ocean. He will be sadly missed by his family, neighbours, and all who came to know him.
He is survived by his wife, Sadie (Ryan) of 50 years; sons, William Keating (Karen), Port Hood; John P. (Gail Gibbons) Port Hawkesbury; Phonsey, Williams Lake B.C.; Darrell (Stephanie) Port Hood; daughters, Ellen (Rodney Gillis) Murphy, Port Hood; Elaine (John) McDonald, Ladner B.C. He is also survived by sisters, Bernice O’Laughlin, and Myrna White; 13 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Bowden is predeceased by his infant son, Alphonsus G., brothers, Kenny, and Douglas; sisters, Mildred Nicholson, Lurline MacDonald, Catheline MacIsaac and Gwenolyn Layden. Family visitation will be held on Monday, January 13, in St. Peter’s Church, Port Hood, from 10-10:45 a.m. with Funeral mass to follow at 11 am, Fr, Vincent vanZutphen officiating. Burial to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Parish Cemetery Fund, Port Hood.
