Dorothy Patterson, 88, of Iowa Park, Texas, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, June 22, 2023. Funeral services will be at 10 AM on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Iowa Park Church of Christ with Bill Lockwood officiating. A private family burial will be at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born on June 11, 1935, in Jolly, Texas to Jewel and Mary Johnson. She met her future husband, Eldon at Henrietta High school where they both graduated. They were married on December 28, 1955, in Grandfield, OK after he returned from serving in the U.S. Navy. Dorothy was an honor graduate of Midwestern University. She worked many jobs throughout her career, administrative assistant, bookkeeper, and educator but her favorite was being a caregiver for her last grandchild and then the great-grandchildren when they came along. She loved rocking those babies and teaching them. She was deeply devoted to her family. Meme’s house was the place everyone always wanted to be.
Dorothy devoted her life to serving the Lord and was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. She was always ready to volunteer whenever anything needed to be done. She was honored to use her skills to further the Lord’s work. She loved anything to do with organizing but her joy was Ladies Bible Class.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Donna Lee Williams, four sisters, Rosemary Ganzer, Edna Shepherd, Betty Bilello, and Patsy Hilbers, and her brother Richard (Buster) Johnson.
Survivors include her husband; her daughter, Deanne Schram and husband Randall of Iowa Park; her granddaughters, Mistie Huff and husband Jeff of Abilene, and Nikki Green and husband Gary of Iowa Park; her grandson, John Schram and wife Sarah of Coppell; her great-grandchildren, Emma Huff, Grant Huff, Andrew Huff, Jackson Huff, Trent Green, Julie Green, Avery Schram, and Evan Schram; her only surviving sister, Joan Moore of Glendale, AZ, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at the Sheridan Medical Lodge for the kindness, loving care and friendship so freely given to Dorothy for the last two years. An extra special thank you goes to those caregivers on Hall 1 who cared for her and loved her so much during these last months. We are also sincerely grateful beyond measure to Hospice of Wichita Falls for the care and compassion extended at such a difficult time.
Memorials may be made to Iowa Park Church of Christ, PO Box 520, Iowa Park, TX 76367.
