Peacefully surrounded by her family, Mary Maxine Davenport Henson Larsh passed away on March 6, 2026, at the age of 95.
Maxine was born on July 11, 1930, in Wheeler, Texas, to Celia and Florence Davenport. She later married Edward Eugene Henson on June 11, 1947, in Canadian, Texas. Together they built a life and raised their children in Iowa Park, TX.
Maxine was the proud mother of eight children: Donna Myers (and husband Terry) of Flora, Illinois; Elaine Rich of Kingman, Arizona; Nadine Houston of Iowa Park; John “Bo” Henson of Iowa Park;
Carol King (and husband Larry) of Checotah, Oklahoma; Eddie Henson of Iowa Park; Janie Ellis of Wichita Falls, Texas; and Jimmy (and Arlene) Henson of Flora, Illinois.
She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were a tremendous source of pride and joy in her life.
Maxine was the fifth child in a family of twelve siblings. She was a faithful member of the Faith Church Ladies Auxiliary in Iowa Park, as well as a member of the Rebecca Lodge.
Throughout her life, Maxine devoted herself to caring for others. She worked as a CNA and geriatric nurse, serving at the Iowa Park Nursing Home and Wichita Falls State Hospital. She also worked for Brownie–Buddy Tanner Funeral Home, continuing her lifelong calling of helping families during difficult times.
Maxine enjoyed the simple and meaningful things in life—ironing, crocheting, gardening, tending to her flower beds, and especially cooking for her family. Her grandchildren will always say there was no cooking quite like Granny’s cooking. She loved country and gospel music and lived her life as a true Christian woman with deep faith and a heart full of love for others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Henson Sr., her parents, several brothers and sisters, son-in-law Gayle Houston, son Eddie Henson jr., three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Maxine leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, family, and service to others that will live on through the many lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice.
