COLUMBIA – A graveside service for Barbara Kennedy Davis, 78, will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2022 in Elmwood Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, is assisting the family. Born in Utica, N.Y. on August 4, 1943, she was a daughter of the late CSM Charles Kennedy, U.S. Army, (Ret.) and Margaret Potter Kennedy. She passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022.
“Babs” was a 1961 graduate of Lower Richland High, USC, and earned her M.ed from Clemson. She taught in Greenwood District #50 for 18 years, at Southside and Emerald Jr. High, and Brewer High School. She and her French students traveled to France and other countries several times during summers. She treasured lifelong friendships from those years.
Barbara moved to Germany in 1984 and lived there until 2008, working for The Department of Defense Dependent Schools as a Guidance Counselor at Bad Kissingen, Vilseck, and Grafenwoehr. She also taught classes for The University of Maryland and other universities to our soldiers, enabling them to continue their graduate education and further promotion in the military. Barbara was very proud to be an “Army Brat” herself, and loved working with our military families. Her years in Germany were halcyon days! She kept in touch with dear friends from Germany, and they visted each other over the years.
She was predeceased by her husband of thirty years, Thomas H. Davis, Jr. She is survived by her beloved sister, Linda K. Sharpe; brother-in-law, Charles Sharpe; niece, Denise Morganelli Stewart and her husband, Jerry; nephew, Albert Joseph Morganelli III; great-niece, Kaitylyn Kennedy Stewart; and stepchildren and stepgrandchildren.
Barb loved her family, her friends, her students, traveling, and the family’s shelter dogs.
She was proud of her Irish heritage and traveled to Ireland many times.
