Chapin, SC - Guy Sorrell went to be with Jesus February 12, 2023 after a valiant battle with vascular dementia. Guy was born in Norfolk, VA to the late Charles Sorrell and Frances Guy Sorrell. After graduating from Dreher High School in 1957, he was proud to serve in the US Marine Corps, both active duty and reserves. After attending the University of South Carolina, he began a successful career spent primarily as a Credit/Collections Manager for Sears, Rhodes and Haverty’s Furniture. Guy was passionate about working out with free weights, watching sports, walking on the beach and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for lunch every day. He was a member of the “39ers” with his classmates from Dreher and was an active member of Chapin United Methodist Church where he went on a mission trip to Jamaica, co-led a small group and served as a greeter and a Stephen Minister. Nothing was more important to him than his relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Guy is survived by his wife of over 37 years, Mary Jane (MJ) Renner Sorrell of Chapin, SC; his daughter Natalie Sorrell Chapman (Steve) of Wadmalaw Island, SC; his son Charles G. (Guy) Sorrell, Jr. (Regina) of Holly Springs, NC; his three beautiful granddaughters Breanna Sorrell of Charlotte, NC, Makenzie Sorrell of Boone, NC and Riley Sorrell of Holly Springs, NC; and his constant companion, his Boykin Spaniel, Cooper, of Chapin, SC. In addition to his parents, Guy is pre-deceased by his sister, Frances Sorrell Harris.
The family would especially like to thank the staff of Prisma PACE White Rock and Akpan and the other caregivers who helped take such good care of him on this journey.
A celebration of Guy’s being with Jesus will be held in the sanctuary at Chapin United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 25, 2023 with visitation at 11 am, service at 12 noon and the interment of his ashes immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would strongly encourage donations in Guy’s memory to Chapin United Methodist Church Missions Fund, Leeza’s Care Connection of Irmo, SC or Samaritan’s Purse.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.dunbarfuneralhomedutchfork.com for the Sorrell family.
