

He was born August 27, 1926 in Bayonne, NJ, the son of George and Anastasia Maker Olenchuk.
He attended the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY and served in WWII. After the war, he graduated from Alfred University in Alfred, NY, then moved to Aliquippa, PA to work for Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation as a Ceramic Engineer.
Toward the end of his career, he worked for LTV Steel and North American Refractories Company in Pittsburgh, PA. After retiring in 1993, he moved to Hilton Head Island, SC, where he enjoyed cycling with the Sea Pines men’s group.
He moved to Irmo, SC in 2017 and was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Anna Spirko Olenchuk, his sister, Rose Yazwinski, and brother, Major General Peter Olenchuk. He is survived by two sons, Bruce (Linda) Olenchuk of Rescue, CA, and Mark Olenchuk of Irmo, SC; two daughters, Lynda (Jack) Withiam of Greenwich, CT, and Barbara (James) Trudeau of Millis, MA; fourteen grandchildren, Tanya Provencal, Daniel and Michael Olenchuk, Hannah Taylor, Wilson, Garrett and Andrew Withiam, James, Preston and MaryAnn Trudeau, and Derek, Kyle, Tyler and Trevor Olenchuk; and four great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Claire and Dominic Olenchuk, and Julia Taylor.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, with visitation following at the Woodmen.
