Donald Franklin Dicus, 72, husband of 48 years to Linda Meade Dicus, left his earthly body and is now in the arms of our Eternal Heavenly Father. He passed away peacefully at the Lexington Medical Hospital in Lexington, South Carolina surrounded and held by his family on the Lords Day Sunday, August 22, 2021. For those of you that knew Don Dicus, he was a legendary father, grandfather, husband, and a friend to all he met.
Don was born on November 8, 1948 to the late Martha Austin Dicus and Jesse Jordan Dicus. He was predeceased by his sister, Wanda Nalley. From his humble roots in Johnson City, TN, Don worked hard and fought his way to success through sheer dedication, sacrifice and good ole hard work. Out of high school, he attended East Tennessee State University, and then joined the United States Army Reserve where he trained to be a medic in the US Army Medical Corp. With a personality that could light up any room, he naturally became a salesman and started his career as a medical sales rep in Knoxville, TN. After 6 years, he moved on to work for 3M where he won numerous awards as the top sales rep in the southeast region. From there, he became the vice-president of an industrial waste transportation and consulting company for many years. He then took the biggest risk a father could take with such a young family in tow and became his own boss by starting, Resource Management, Inc. in 1989. His passion and dedication to the business for the past 33 years now lives on under the leadership of his eldest son Chase Dicus.
In addition to being a multifaceted business man and member of the community, he also took the time to coach and mentor his sons and their friends in little league baseball and basketball. Don loved sports, especially playing tennis with his buddies at Crooked Creek Park. Most notably he was an avid golfer. He played in numerous tournaments growing up and had the opportunity to participate in many MCI Heritage Classic Pro-Ams in Hilton Head, SC.
Don was a master of communication and dealing with people. He was truly a stranger to no one with the uncanny knack of getting along with everyone. Not only could he tell a joke, but it was his stories that would leave an entire room in tears of laughter.
Although retired, he always had numerous projects going on. Most recently and right up before his earthly departure he completed a full renovation of a new office for RMI. Undoubtedly, his favorite part of the new office and property were his ducks and guinea fowls that he was raising to roam the property and inhabit the pond where he fished. His most famous catch to date was a 30 pound snapping turtle.
Don was a member of Lake Murray Presbyterian Church where he served as a youth group leader for many years. He felt it was an honor and a privilege to serve as a role model and leader to the church’s biggest and most active youth group. Through their mission outreaches, Don along with Linda and other youth group leaders guided and shared their faith and love to so many people.
In addition to his wife Linda, Don is survived by his two sons Chase of Columbia, SC and Crafton, husband of Lauren who reside in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with their daughter Coralei Meade Dicus. He was most affectionately referred to as “Gaga” by his adorning grand-daughter. And we cannot forget Don’s beloved rescue dogs and cats - Bucky, Milo, Albert, and Tucker.
Don’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to all. We are eternally grateful for all the kind words, loving messages, prayers and support.
The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall at 1:00 pm on Sunday September 12, 2021 at Lake Murray Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary officiated by Dr. Ben Sloan. A private interment will be held following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lake Murray Presbyterian Church, 2721 Dutch Fork Road, Chapin, SC 29036 or Pawmetto Lifeline, 1275 Bower Pkwy, Columbia, SC 29212.
