

Layne, Donald A, 61, of Irmo, SC, passed away on February 16, 2016 after a lengthy illness. Son of the late Walter A. Layne, Jr and Joanne Layne of Beavercreek, OH, he is survived by his daughter Ashley, her son, Jackson, of Irmo, and son, Bradley(Brittany) their children Wesley and Kailey of Lexington, sister, Barbara Layne of Dayton, OH and a host of cousins, aunts and uncles and friends. A special thanks to those doctors, nurses, and many first resonders who played a major role in Don's life throughout his illness. Don was born in Staunton, VA. His father was transferred several times by NCR so he lived in Dayton, OH, Newington, CT and Beavercreek, OH where he graduated from Beavercreek High School in 1972. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and received his basic training at Fort Knox, KY, helicopter repair schooling at Fort Rucker, AL, was then transferred to Korea for a year making him a veteran of the Korean conflict and then finished out his enlistment at Fort Hood, TX. He moved to the Columbia, SC area to join NCR as a field engineer. He moved his family to Irmo where he has been a resident for over 25 years. Don enjoyed visiting with his children, laughing with his grandkids and socializing with the Lake Murray Power Squadron. Shortly before he passed, he was able fulfilled several bucket list items. His grand presence will be greatly missed by his family. Viewing will be at Dunbar Funeral Home on Sunday, February 21, from 4 to 6, funeral service on Monday at 11 am with burial at the Fort Jackson Veterans Cemetery at 1:00.
