

Edward Samuel "Sam" Koontz, 76, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away on July 18, 2022. He was born on March 19, 1946, in Wheeling, West Virginia, son of the late Earl Melvin Koontz and Frances Elizabeth Irick Koontz.
Sam was a graduate of West Virginia University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Advertising/Marketing. From 1969 to 1988, he was a sales representative for Washington Manufacturing Company of Nashville, Tennessee, traveling the Mid-Atlantic states. In 1988, he purchased James Battery Sales and worked there until his retirement in 2002. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Grace Covenant Church for many years serving as an Elder. Sam was also actively involved in The Gideons International working with fellow Gideons with distributions at Fort Jackson.
Sam is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia A. Koontz, children Deborah A. Koontz of St. Petersburg, Florida, David M. Koontz (Brandy) of Columbia, South Carolina and Robert J. Koontz of Arlington, Virginia, and grandchildren, Jack Koontz, Sydney Noyes, Piper Koontz and Charlie Koontz. Sam will be greatly missed by his animal companions, dogs Jubilee and Scout and his cat, Sassy.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. Visitation with the family will follow the service.
Sam's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Prisma Health Hospice and his caregivers for their unfailing care of Sam before his death.
