She was born on September 12, 1943, in Winnsboro, South Carolina. After graduating high school, Emily moved to Columbia, where she eventually settled in Irmo and made it her home for over 50 years. She retired from CED Electric following many years of dedicated service and was a faithful member of Union United Methodist Church in Irmo.
Emily was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Francis Windham, who passed away on February 17, 2026, just one day after celebrating his 85th birthday. They shared more than 55 years of marriage together. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ruby Ligon Castles and Marion Sumter Castles, and her sister, Marion Castles Fanning.
She is survived by her sister, Adair Castles Long; her daughter, Alison Windham Stancil (Gene); her grandchildren, Taylor Stancil Puckhaber (Matt) and Ryan Camille Stancil (Tuan); and her great-grandsons, Tuan Carter Chau and Mason Ray Chau.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenbriar Methodist Church in Winnsboro, South Carolina.
